Individual, Family, & Group Psychotherapy for
Complex Concerns and Relationships
About Me
I became a therapist because I believe in the power of healing relationships. Therapy has had a lasting impact on my personal life and motivated me to pursue it as a career. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) who specializes in providing counseling services to individuals with complex problems and/or relationships. I have eighteen years of experience working in the mental health field. I have my masters degree from the University of Texas at Austin and my undergraduate degree in psychology from Dartmouth College. My interest in private practice stemmed from my desire to assist clients in achieving longer-term goals than is possible within an inpatient psychiatric facility. My background working in hospitals and community mental health has prepared me to deal effectively with crises and has instilled in me the belief that no matter how difficult a problem may seem, there is always the potential for growth and healing.
I live in Austin with my husband and two children. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, gardening, hiking, canoeing, creating art, and listening to music.
My Approach
I believe that people should not be limited to a label. We are so much more than problems or disorders; the very parts of our personalities we view as flaws are simultaneously the origin of our strengths, creativity, and humanity. I welcome clients of all backgrounds into my practice- a confidential and relaxing environment where I will listen to you without judgment. In sessions we will work together at a pace that feels right for you. We will identify and prioritize your goals, address problems that get in the way of your healing, and collaboratively build lasting solutions. I believe that therapy should not be a mysterious process; it is about establishing a safe connection, increasing self-awareness, and taking risks. I am direct, interactive, and genuine, and I strongly believe that people change through healing relationships. I will work at your pace and will listen to and accept your feedback about how we are working together.
I am a long-term, insight-oriented therapist who approaches work with the goal of addressing underlying concerns rather than applying band-aid solutions. I am guided by psychodynamic, attachment, and narrative-based approaches. l work well with motivated individuals seeking to make changes and willing to be challenged. I am honored to be a part of each of my clients' journeys to improved health and happiness. Please contact me for a free phone consultation to see if I would be a good fit for your needs.
